Designated as "America's National Maritime Museum," The Mariners’ Museum illustrates the spirit of seafaring adventure through a diverse collection of rare figureheads, handcrafted ship models, paintings, and more. Visit the award winning USS Monitor Center, where visitors can be part of the action in the high-definition battle theater, walk a full-scale Monitor replica, view interactive exhibits, and see notable artifacts, like the gun turret, as they undergo conservation. Hours Wednesday – Saturday: 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. Sunday: Noon to 5 P.M. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas. The Museum will be open on Mondays that coincide with federal holidays. Admission Adults, Youth Ages 13 to 17: $12.00 AAA/Seniors/Military/Students: $11.00 Children Ages 6 to 12: $7.00 Ages 5 and Under: Free Museum Members receive Free Admission

Occupying separate locations, these facilities provide a source for handcrafted traditional articles and a unique display of ancient artifacts, some dating to 5000 B.C. Educational programs at the trading post include pottery, beadwork, cooking and Indian medicine.

A Virginia Historic Landmark and an Historic American Building, designed as an architectural museum house exposing 3 historic periods, there are 90 architectural features labeled as teaching points. Collections also highlight the history of Mulberry Island. The house was restored by the US National Park Service Williamsport (Md) Training Center under the direction of the US Army Corps of Engineers.

Commemorates eleven holders of the Congressional Medal of Honor including Sgt. Charles Veal, 4th U.S. Colored Troops, a Portsmouth native who dashed forward to seize the nation's colors from a dying soldier at the Battle of New Market Heights in 1864.
