Within Chippokes Plantation State Park, this site has an antebellum plantation home built in 1854 as well as the Chippokes Farm and Forestry Museum. The museum showcases farm history and exhibits various farm buildings that represent various periods of agriculture and farm life.

Come and experience the Civil War in Newport News. Walk in the footsteps of Union and Confederate soldiers as you tour fortifications and battle sites. Travel back in time at Endview Plantation and Lee Hall Mansion. Visit Fort Monroe, the largest moat-encircled masonry fort in the US, where escaped slaves were sheltered. Step inside a re-creation of the turret from the USS Monitor, the famous Union ironclad, at the world-renowned Mariners' Museum. See a wooden spoon carved by a prisoner of war at the Virginia War Museum. Learn how the soldiers celebrated Christmas during the 1860s. The story of the Civil War is the story of the people - from decorated generals to eighteen-year-old privates. Come and meet them in Newport News. Built in 1769 by Colonel William Harwood, Jr., signer of the Virginia Resolves, this home has experienced the ordeal of three wars. The Civil War found Endview serving as a Confederate captain's home and a hospital for the Confederacy. Restored to its 1862 appearance, The Civil War at Endview Plantation interprets rural Virginia life. Group rates available. From January 1- March 31 the plantation is open on Thursday-Saturday 10am-4pm & Sunday 12-5pm. From April 1- December 31 Endview will be open Monday, Thursday-Friday 10am-4pm, Saturday 10am-5pm, & Sunday 12-5pm. Closed major holidays. Located at Exit 247 from I-64, only minutes from Colonial Williamsburg and all Newport News attractions.

Historic Jamestowne offers a wealth of activities for exploring the first permanent English settlement in North America. Visitors can share the moment of discovery with archaeologists at the 1607 James Fort excavation; tour the original 17th-century church tower and reconstructed Jamestown Memorial Church; take a walking tour with a Park Ranger through the original settlement along the James River; watch glassblowing at the Glasshouse; and see an exhibit of artifacts in the new Archaearium Museum. Musuem stores are available at the Visitor Center. Driving tours explore the natural setting where exhibits explain how the settlers harnessed the wilderness & visitors regularly see bald eagles, heron, deer & other wildlife. Historic Jamestowne is jointly administered by APVA Preservation Virginia & the National Park Service.

Interpreting local history, the museum's exhibits include prehistoric fossils, Native American and Colonial artifacts, a country store and the museum's most notable artifact - the world's oldest, edible cured ham. The 1902 pork product exemplifies the patented Smithfield curing process.
