Berkeley is Virginia's most historic plantation. Visit the site of the first official Thanksgiving (1619). See the birthplace of Benjamin Harrison, signer of the Declaration of Independence, and President William Henry Harrison, our nation's ninth president, whose grandson Benjamin became the 23rd president. Envision Lincoln reviewing 140,000 Union troops. Hear "Taps" (composed here in 1862). We invite you to experience Berkeley's famous hospitality, as did the first ten presidents. An architectual gem, the elegant 1726 Georgian mansion is furnished with rare period antiques. Five terraces of restored boxwood and flower gardens overlook farmlands and offer breathtaking vistas of the James River. Audio-visual program. Museum. Gift Shop. Costumed guides.

Located in the historic Town of Smithfield is the Old Courthouse. This building was built in 1750 and used as a courthouse until 1800 when the court was moved to Isle of Wight County Courthouse. After that time, it was converted to a private three-story dwelling. The private dwelling was constructed in such a way that the original structure of the courthouse was preserved almost completely intact. In 1959 the Isle of Wight branch of the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities (APVA) began restoration of the building to its original form. It is now open to the public with no charge for admittance. The adjoining clerk's office was built in 1799 and has been used as an office or a shop since 1800.

The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation operates two world-class museums whose collections enhance and enrich the guest experience beyond the living history of the Historic Area. The award-winning DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum houses the Foundation’s renowned collection of British and American decorative arts dating from 1600 through 1830. The award-winning Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum—the oldest institution in the United States dedicated solely to the collection and preservation of American folk art—reopened in February 2007 in new quarters adjacent to the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum. Exhibits feature paintings, whirligigs, weather vanes, carvings, toys, embroideries and other folk works representing many diverse cultural traditions and geographic regions. Admission prices are subject to change without notice.
